Global Led-backlit LCD TV shipments are expected to reach 31.6 million units in 2010, up from 3.6 million units in 2009, according to Digitimes Research.
Fist-tier LCD TV vendors have raised their LED-backlit TV shipment goals for 2010 in response to he type's growing popularity. Market sources noted that Samsung Electronics now aims to ship 10 million LED-backlit TVs in 2010 with a widened product range covering 19- to 65-inch.
In the first half of 2010, 40- and 42-inch have been the most popular LED TV sizes, but demand for smaller-size models has been growing. Leading TFT-LCD panel makers have stepped up shipments to the sub-32-inch segment.
LG Display, Sharp, AU Optronics (AUO) and Chimei Innolux (CMI) have started shipping 26-inch LED-backlit TV panels. These makers, as well as Samsung, are also supplying LED TV panels to the 32- to 37-inch segment, the sources said.
